![]() TL DR ripping 600 DVDs is a pain in the ass especially for SD, with a fast connection you can download a movie just as fast if not faster than the time it takes to rip it.Download Install HandBrake libdvdcss to Rip Protected DVDs It was much quicker for me and no headache. Now I have my entire movie collection on my NAS ripped nearly all by pro encoders who do this shit everyday. Also got a free upgrade in quality to 720P when available for all my old DVDs. With a 6 MBps connection I flew through downloading these movies and it required little to no handholding. I ended up downloading my entire collection via usenet, the movies I couldn't find on usenet I supplemented from torrent sites. Also I just found each DVD was different and required specific settings. Using handbrake worked well but it took forever I was looking at 30 minutes per DVD with an i7 CPU. Might not be a popular opinion because you're asking about ripping but i went through this process I had about 600 or so DVDs and BluRays to rip, I found using MakeMKV was quick but some of the aspect ratios looked weird depending on the DVD in XBMC some left green lines some just left black bars on the sides, I also wasn't a fan of ~4GB for every single DVD for 480P quality when I could download a nice encode in 720P for the same size. ![]() Get cordcutting advice on streaming devices, live streaming services, on demand services, antennas, and OTA DVRs.
